K-5 Mathematics

Welcome Monroe families! Our curriculum and instruction team work together to make math engaging and accessible for students from kindergarten through 5th grade! Our program combines the rich, problem-based learning of the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum with innovative Building Thinking Classrooms practices. This powerful combination ensures that your child not only learns math but also understands how to think like a mathematician.

With engaging lessons, interactive activities, real-world problems and a focus on building strong foundational skills, we help students develop confidence and proficiency in math. We believe in making math fun and meaningful, encouraging students to learn through curiosity, collaboration, critical thinking, and a growth mindset. In addition, it is important to balance deep conceptual understanding by enhancing student’s math fluency and number sense.

We foster a learning environment where students work together, share ideas, and explore multiple ways to solve problems. By doing so, students have ample opportunities to persevere and problem solve, communicate ideas and reasoning, construct viable arguments, justify and critique the reasoning of others, and other essential math practices that support student success in everyday life and on the state’s SBA summative assessments.
